Context
On the title page: "Lettere italiane trovate nelle scritture quando si fuggì da Siena il sig.r Piero Strozzi, dall'anno 51 al 1555". Letters and documents intercepted by the Florentine-Imperial troops during the Siena war, mostly during the siege of the town [1554-1555]. This volume contains mainly samples of correspondence between French and Sienese soldiers and administrators and between common citizens inside and outside the city during the siege of 1554-1555.
